Unlike our other sequencing projects, genotyping the Aegilops collection of the WGRC Gene Bank will allow the comparison of 20 different species of the wheat family. Planting began in November 2019 and was completed in January 2020. In total, 997 plants were sampled. Individual plants are now growing in the greenhouse at the Wheat Innovation Center to collect seed from sampled plants. Germination data also was measured in germinating seed to identify accessions with poor germination and in need of seed increase. In addition, we will now be able to look at all accessions of each species simultaneously and get a snapshot of the variation within.
