Junli Zhang

Junli ZhangDr. Junli Zhang is a small-grains geneticist at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Texas A&M AgriLife High Plains Research and Extension Center in Canyon, Texas. Dr. Zhang’s program mainly emphasizes pre-breeding activities that provide useful germplasm and associated genetic information to winter wheat breeding programs in Texas and nearby states. His research team addresses economically important challenges of wheat production on the South Great Plains and in Texas, including wheat curl mites and their vectored viruses, the Hessian fly, greenbug, rusts, and Fusarium head blight. Dr. Zhang has been using advanced techniques such as doubled haploid, speed breeding, gene editing, and high-throughput genotyping to develop new germplasm with increased stress tolerance/resistance and nutritional quality.
