Ural Yunusbaev is a postdoctoral fellow at Kansas State University’s Wheat Genetics Resource Center and Department of Plant Pathology. He uses genome assembly, comparative genomics, and bioinformatics to study wheat and its wild relatives. His bioinformatic analyses have contributed to mapping Sr39, a wheat stem rust resistance gene. As first author of a study of *Aegilops geniculata*, he characterized its two subgenomes, chromosome rearrangements, and regions containing candidate disease-resistance genes. He also used whole-genome sequencing to characterize gene edits in wheat with reduced gluten immunoreactivity and preserved grain protein quality.Ural Yunusbaev
